Occupational Therapy

Car accident? Workplace accident? Stroke? Home renos for someone with a physical disability? Brain injury? Autism? Trouble doing the things you did when you were younger? Scooter, wheelchair or walker needed? These are just a few of the things our community-based rehabilitation services help you with. Most of these have funding attached, so you're not out of pocket.

They all begin with an assessment by a registered Occupational Therapist who looks at how you 'function' regarding Personal Care, Leisure, and Work. The treatment program developed from this assessment might be supported by a Rehabilitation Assistant.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Has Autism Spectrum Disorder happened in your family? Don't know where to turn?

We have over 30 years experience working with families and individuals affect by ASD and we specialize with children age 6 and older, youth and adults. Whether you need an initial Occupational Therapy consultation or assessment after diagnosis, behaviour or physical skills therapy, or help finding meaningful employment, we are here.

Kinesiology

Kinesiologists (Kins) are experts (they have 4 year degrees!) in body movement. Lots of Kins work with sports teams and high performance athletes. Not us; our rehabilitation Kinesiologists are specially trained to work with people who have been injured or severely ill.

We have no 'boot camp' here; we go gently and slowly, assessing and modifying your exercise program as we go. By setting realistic goals, we work to get you back to your pre-injury or pre-illness physical condition as closely and as painlessly as possible. Your program may include pool therapy, dry land training in our gym or yours, or exercising in our beautiful BC outdoors! Then, if it's right for you, work conditioning exercises will help prepare you to return to work.

Employer Solutions

OK; you're feeling better but your doctor says you have to go back to work gradually. Who do you call? Us... here's why:

Our Return to Work Specialists work with your employer and you to negotiate a Graduated Return to Work Plan that may run many weeks before you are back to full-time hours and duties. If you are returning after a car or workplace accident, there's funding to pay for RTW Specialists. We use Occupational Therapists (especially if you've had a brain injury) or Kinesiologists (they focus on physical injuries), with a RTW success rate of 89%

Counselling for Trauma

Are you struggling with low mood, anxiety, stress, pain, or fatigue? Are you having trouble getting out of bed or talking to others? Are you looking for a Counsellor who understands trauma and the role it plays in general mental health issues? Well, that's our focus, in person OR virtually.

Using secure, stored-in-Canada telehealth solutions, we can work with you anywhere is BC in real time, Monday to Friday office hours. Conversely, if you can't attend daytime session, you might find our email counselling works for you. Our goal: to help you feel more like yourself again.

Our counselling services are delivered by registered clinical counsellors, using a variety of treatments:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy / Trauma (CBT / T)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Somatic Processing Therapy (SPT), and others, depending on your needs.

Pre / Employment Programs

If you don't have a job to go to or if you don't have enough hours, and if anxiety, depression, emotional stress coming out of violence or abuse at some point in your life is making it hard for you to find or keep jobs, you are eligible for our FREE Seasons Change Employment Program (WorkBC) and / or our Rise Employment Training Program (Jobs in Demand). Both programs are staffed with trauma-informed professionals who will help you decide on a career, teach you job search skills, pay for training, and help you find a job. Along the way, they might refer you to counsellors and other community resources, or help you apply for Persons with Disabilities.

Vocational Evaluation & Career Counselling

Want to be an astronaut? Let's be real; this is REALLY, REALLY HARD TO DO. No matter how much you want it, and how hard you try, this might be unrealistic. Before you spend money for training, find out if the training and the "end job" will be right for you. Vocational evaluation (Voc Eval) is the first step in career decision making and we are doing this virtually with people all over BC, and in person in our Kamloops clinic.

And if you need help choosing between several good options, we also provide Career Counselling.

Medical-Legal

Requested by legal counsel throughout the province, our Medical-Legal services team provide Cost of Future Care / Life Care Plans for the settlement of traumatic brain injury and other complex presentations, Critique / Rebuttal, and Loss of Services opinions. Our Medical-Legal services are provided by our most experienced Occupational Therapists who have been accepted as Expert Witnesses in Supreme Court of BC.
